Mind the Gap

Do you know that children need a vocabulary of approximately 50,000 words when they leave school in order to thrive academically and beyond? They also need to know what words mean. Yet in normal everyday conversation, we only use approximately 2,000 words.

Our focus this year as a school is to increase children's use of words and their understanding. Please help us at home by explaining any words your children might not know that come up in conversation as well as sometimes exposing them to different words such as "complicated" rather than "tricky"
